PROSPER, Texas — On a crisp Friday night, September 12, 2025, the Walnut Grove Wildcats celebrated Homecoming in style at Prosper ISD Children’s Health Stadium, soundly defeating the Frisco Emerson Mavericks 49-0. The game marked the beginning of district play for Walnut Grove, and the Wildcats made it clear they’re ready.
Offensive Highlights
- The Smash The Gas Offense turned in an overwhelming performance with 460 all purpose yards on the evening.
- Senior running back Cameron “Cam” Newton was electric. He rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He also contributed through the air, catching passes for 106 yards and adding a receiving touchdown. His biggest rush came just before halftime—an explosive 81-yard touchdown that blew the game open.
- Sophomore quarterback Hayes Hackney posted 213 passing yards and tossed three touchdown passes. A 70yd pass to Newton early in the second quarter put the Wildcats ahead for good.
- Other offensive contributors also got in on the scoring, including Zaiden Crain and Hayden Cooley, each with a touchdown. Their involvement helped keep the offense balanced and dangerous.
Defensive Highlights
- Walnut Grove’s Dark Alley Defense was dominant all night. They held the Mavericks scoreless in every quarter, delivering a shutout with zero points allowed.
- The Wildcats forced three interceptions—a critical stat that killed Emerson’s momentum and crushed any potential comebacks. INTs were turned in by Keller Pettinger, Joey Siracuse, and Alek Hatcher.
- In total offense, the Mavericks managed just 114 total yards, while Walnut Grove piled up 460. Emerson’s rushing attempts were contained, and their passing was limited and ineffective.
