Prosper, TX — The Walnut Grove Wildcats pulled off a dramatic comeback on Friday night, rallying from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Anna Coyotes 45–38 in a thrilling District 4-5A Division II matchup.
A Tough First Half
The first two quarters were anything but smooth for Walnut Grove. Ana’s offense controlled the pace early, mixing the run and short passing game to build a two-score lead. The Wildcats found the end zone once before halftime but went into the locker room trailing 24–14 — facing one of their biggest deficits of the season.
A Second-Half Surge – Strong & Courageous
Whatever was said in the halftime locker room worked. The Wildcats emerged with renewed energy and dominated the third quarter on both sides of the ball. The #DarkAlleyDefense forced back-to-back punts and a turnover, while the #SmashTheGas offense exploded for 21 straight points to seize a 35–24 lead heading into the fourth.
Finishing Strong
Walnut Grove continued to pour it on, extending the run to 28 unanswered points before Anna finally answered late. The Wildcats’ offensive line controlled the trenches, opening lanes for the ground game to chew up clock and keep the Coyotes at bay. A late defensive stand inside their own 30-yard line sealed the comeback victory.
Statement Win
With the 45–38 triumph, Walnut Grove improves to 7–0 overall and 5–0 in district play, keeping their perfect season alive. The win showcased the Wildcats’ resilience and poise — proof they can respond when adversity hits. Post game, Walnut Grove Head Coach Tommy Allison said, “It feels good. You’ve got a little sour grapes in your mouth because they got us pretty good the last two years, but we knew how good they were. We’ll enjoy this, but we have to get to the next one because this district is crazy.”
