PROSPER, TX — November 14, 2025 — The Walnut Grove Wildcats pulled away in the second half to secure a 35-21 victory over Arlington Seguin in the Bi-District round at Children’s Health Stadium in Prosper. The Wildcats continue their historic season with a decisive victory marking another major milestone for the program in its second varsity season.
Slow Start, Even Halftime Score
Walnut Grove entered the night as the undefeated No. 5 team in Class 5A, but found themselves locked in a 7-7 battle at the half against a determined Seguin squad. The Wildcats’ high-powered offense hadn’t yet found full rhythm, and Seguin earned the tie heading into halftime thanks to their physical effort and opportunistic defense.
Second-Half Surge
As halftime adjustments took hold, the Wildcats #SmashTheGas offense flipped the switch. On the very first possession of the second half, Walnut Grove engineered a drive from their own 23-yard line, culminating in a 53-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Hayes Hackney to wide-receiver Zaiden Crain — who finished the night with six catches for 181 yards and three scores. Moments later, a defensive stop at midfield led to another deep pass from Hackney to Crain for a 52-yard score, swinging momentum firmly in the Wildcats’ favor.
Ground Game Dominates
Meanwhile, running back Cam Newton ably carried the Wildcats’ attack, finishing with 37 carries for 249 yards and two touchdowns, after a modest first half of only 69 rushing yards. His workload and production underscored Walnut Grove’s ability to impose their will late in the game.
Defense Comes Up Big
On the defensive side, Walnut Grove’s #DarkAlleyDefense front-seven stiffened in the second half. Seguin managed just 30 rushing yards on the night behind the Wildcats’ defensive line featuring Kristopher Williams, Tylan Henderson‑Powell and Kai Beller, plus linebackers like Keller Pittenger and Parker Olson. A critical goal-line stand in the third quarter — in which Crain batted down a fourth-down pass — exemplified the Wildcats’ defensive resolve.
Looking Ahead
With the win, Walnut Grove advances to the Area Round and will face Lubbock Cooper Pirates next week (Cooper advanced with a 45-42 victory over Del Valle). Post game, Wildcat Head Coach Tommy Allison stated:
“I was proud of the way our defense played. We made a few adjustments and the kids were awesome. I was proud of all our kids.”
